MATCH REPORT

Shooting Stars 1-0 Remo Stars

The South West Derby delivered its signature intensity at the Lekan Salami Stadium as Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) edged Remo Stars 1–0 in a tightly contested encounter defined by tactical discipline, physical duels, and moments of brilliance from both sides.

With the stands buzzing and the derby atmosphere at full volume, both teams approached the game with urgency. Shooting Stars aimed to build on their recent win over El-Kanemi Warriors, while Remo Stars sought a response following their Matchday 15 loss to Niger Tornadoes.

First Half: Fast Start, Strong Control

The Oluyole Warriors began on the front foot, dictating the tempo from kickoff. In the opening minute, Jamiu Hamzat forced the game’s first corner, setting the tone for early pressure. Moments later, Sodiq Ibrahim won a dangerous free kick deep in Remo’s half, keeping the visitors unsettled.

The first major chance came in the 6th minute when Ayobami Junior fired narrowly wide after a quick attacking transition. Shooting Stars continued to dominate possession, keeping Remo Stars compact defensively as 3SC’s midfield trio controlled the rhythm of the game.

A short stoppage in the 18th minute for an injury scare to Ayobami Junior did little to slow the hosts’ dominance.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 34th minute. Ayobami Junior found Ayodele Ismail with a precise pass, and Ismail squeezed his effort past the goalkeeper despite taking a knock. It was a moment of quality that sent the Adamasingba crowd into jubilation.

Shooting Stars went into halftime with a deserved 1–0 lead.

Second Half: Control, Discipline, and Game Management

3SC resumed the second half with similar intent. Just three minutes in, Ayodele Ismail came close to extending the lead, missing by inches. As the half progressed, 3SC remained in control. Ayobami Junior drew crucial fouls around the hour mark, while defender Gbolagade Adelowo delivered an important intervention in the 67th minute to preserve the lead.

Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made strategic changes to maintain intensity and structure.
In the 76th minute, Adegoke Qamar, Adams Mustapha, and Ekeocha Chukwudi came on for Ayodele Ismail, Ayobami Junior, and Sodiq Ibrahim, injecting fresh pace into the attack.

Late substitutions further stabilized the game. Alex Aghahowa replaced Awosanmi Promise in the 87th minute, and Emmanuel Ndubueze came on in the 93rd minute for the injured Chukwudi, ensuring composure in the closing stages.

As full time approached, Shooting Stars continued to push forward, while Remo Stars held a compact defensive line. The tension was palpable, with every tackle and clearance met by a roar from the stands.

Ultimately, the match ended 1–0, a scoreline that reflected both the intensity and tactical balance of the derby.
