MATCH REPORT

We Fall Narrowly to Rivers United in Port Harcourt

We suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Rivers United in a hard-fought NPFL Matchday 4 clash at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt.

From the onset, we matched the home side for intensity and looked the brighter team in the early stages. Our captain, Gali Falke, controlled the defense with composure, combining well with Ismail Ayodele to drive us forward. In goal, Godgift El-Kanah was outstanding, pulling off crucial saves to keep the game level, including a sharp stop from a dangerous first-half free kick.

Close Calls After the Restart

After the break, we came close to seizing the advantage. In the 54th minute, Wasiu unleashed a thunderous effort that rattled the crossbar. Promise Awosanmi and Ayodele Ismail also had opportunities but were unable to apply the finishing touch.

Rivers United Break the Deadlock

The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute when Rivers United struck from a long throw-in delivered deep into our box, punishing a brief lapse in defensive marking.

Fighting Until the End

In response, Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made key changes to push us back into the game. Justice replaced the injured Falke, while Monsoor, Chukwudi, and Jobi added fresh energy to our attack and midfield. Our bench and traveling fans were left frustrated in the 80th minute when Wasiu appeared to be fouled in the box, but the referee waved away our penalty appeals.

We pressed relentlessly in the final stages, piling pressure on Rivers United and forcing them into their own half. With five minutes of stoppage time, we continued to push for an equalizer, but the hosts held firm until the final whistle.

Looking Ahead to Matchday 5

Although the result did not go our way, there were positives to take — our organization, intensity, and fighting spirit on the road showed clear signs of progress.

Our focus now shifts to Matchday 5, when we host Kun Khalifat FC at the Lekan Salami Stadium. With the support of our faithful fans, we will look to turn resilience into victory and secure our first three points of the season.
