MATCH REPORT

Rangers Int'l 1–0 Shooting Stars SC

It was a fiercely contested evening at the iconic Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium as Enugu Rangers edged past Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) with a narrow 1–0 victory on Matchday 12 of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The encounter lived up to its billing, with both sides showing attacking intent and discipline, but it was the hosts who made their dominance count.

First Half

The Oluyole Warriors began brightly, showing early attacking intent. Sodiq Ibrahim found space in the 9th minute and had the ball in the net, but his effort was ruled offside. Moments later, Qamar Adegoke went close with a low drive after a promising build-up.

Rangers responded almost immediately, forcing a top-class save from Mustapha Lawal in the 14th minute following a dangerous free kick. Shooting Stars continued to look threatening on the counter, with Ayobami Junior delivering a fine cross in the 20th minute that found Qamar, whose effort narrowly missed the target.

The home side eventually broke the deadlock in the 27th minute after sustained pressure led to a goalmouth scramble, putting Rangers 1–0 ahead. Despite the setback, the Oluyole Warriors pushed for an equalizer, Qamar tested the goalkeeper again in the 30th minute, while Ikuowem Utin’s 37th-minute strike was comfortably gathered. Falke’s inviting cross just before halftime was met by Qamar, whose header drifted agonizingly wide as the first half ended with Rangers holding a slender lead.

Second Half

Chasing the game, Shooting Stars returned from the break with renewed energy and determination. Tunde Azeez tried his luck from distance in the 50th minute but couldn’t keep his effort down.

Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made a triple substitution in the 60th minute, introducing Abiodun Adegoke, Adams Mustapha, and Hamzat Jamiu for Ekeocha Chukwudi, Qamar Adegoke, and Ikuowem Utin, respectively. The changes brought fresh legs and intensity, with Adams’ 67th-minute free kick deflecting off the wall before Tijani Kabir sent the rebound wide.

As the game progressed, Aweroro made further attacking changes, Ganiyu Wasiu replaced Sodiq Ibrahim in the 71st minute, and Adebayo Abayomi came on for Tijani Kabir in the 79th minute, as the Oluyole Warriors pushed hard for an equalizer.

Despite the tactical adjustments and late attacking pressure, Shooting Stars couldn’t find the breakthrough. Rangers stood firm, defending with composure and closing out the match with a disciplined performance to claim all three points.

Full-Time Summary

Shooting Stars displayed grit, determination, and several promising passages of play but ultimately lacked the finishing touch in front of goal. The narrow defeat in Enugu serves as a reminder of the fine margins in top-level competition.

The Oluyole Warriors will now shift focus to the next NPFL fixture, a high-stakes South West derby against Remo Stars at the Lekan Salami Stadium. The team will look to bounce back in front of our passionate home supporters as we aim to return to winning ways.
