Plateau United 4–1 Shooting Stars SC
We suffered a 4–1 defeat to Plateau United in an NPFL clash at the New Jos Stadium, as we struggled to contain the intensity and attacking threat of the hosts.
Early Lead, Quick Response
Plateau United applied early pressure, creating several chances within the opening 10 minutes. Qamar Adegoke broke the deadlock in the 11th minute to put us ahead, giving us an early lead.
However, Plateau United responded quickly, drawing level in the 13th minute and taking the lead in the 24th minute with clinical finishing that exploited gaps in our defence. We also came close in the 16th minute when Utin had a chance to double our advantage from close range, but his effort went off target.
Despite promising moments, including Lucky Emmanuel winning a corner in the 31st minute and Qamar Adegoke testing the goalkeeper in the 39th, we struggled to convert possession into clear chances and went into halftime trailing 2–1.
Second-Half Setback
Plateau United maintained control in the second half. Desmond Ojietefian was booked in the 47th minute, followed by Qamar Adegoke in the 50th. The hosts extended their lead in the 54th minute from the penalty spot to make it 3–1. We nearly responded in the 56th minute, but Ayobami Junior’s effort drifted wide.
A triple substitution followed in the 75th minute, with Sodiq Ibrahim, Olaoke Olajobi, and Namapele James replacing Qamar Adegoke, Tijani Kabir, and Lucky Emmanuel. In the 79th minute, Namapele James delivered a cross for Ayodele Ismail that failed to find its target, while Sodiq Ibrahim’s late free kick in the 86th minute was deflected for a corner.
Full-Time Reflection
Overall, it was a difficult outing for us. Plateau United’s intensity, clinical finishing, and ability to capitalize on chances proved decisive.
Attention now turns to regrouping and preparing for our next NPFL fixture, as we welcome Kano Pillars on home soil.
