The Lekan Salami Stadium comes alive once again as we prepare to host Rangers International FC in our Matchday 32 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, a clash rich in history, pride, and purpose.
With the season entering a crucial stage, both teams have plenty at stake. We remain firmly in contention for a continental spot, while Rangers, currently leading the league, will be aiming to maintain their momentum heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
We head into this fixture following a narrow 1–0 defeat to Katsina United on Matchday 31. That result sees us sit 6th on the NPFL table, three points off the continental places and seven behind the league leaders, with seven games remaining.
Despite the setback, we have been formidable at home this season, turning the Lekan Salami Stadium into a difficult ground for visiting teams. Backed by our passionate supporters, we will be determined to bounce back and return to winning ways.
Rangers International FC arrive in Ibadan in strong form under Fidelis Ilechukwu, as they continue their push at the top of the table. The Flying Antelopes have been solid in the second stanza of the season, conceding just one goal in their last eight matches.
They currently sit top of the table with 54 points, two points clear of second place, and come into this fixture on the back of a 2–0 victory over El-Kanemi Warriors.
• Shooting Stars Wins: 5
• Rangers International Wins: 2
• Draws: 3
Last season, we recorded a dominant 5–1 victory over Rangers. However, the reverse fixture this season ended in a 1–0 win for Rangers at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
We head into this fixture with a largely available squad and a positive atmosphere in camp.
Samuel Okon continues his rehabilitation, while Ganiyu Wasiu is progressing in recovery. Gali Falke is managing an ankle sprain, and Awosanmi Promise will also miss out as he continues his return to full fitness.
On a positive note, Mustapha Lawal and Jamiu Hamzat have resumed full training and will be pushing for inclusion in the matchday squad.
In midfield, Tijani Kabir and Namapele James provide solid options, with Adebayo Abayomi also in contention.
Austin Onyemaechi offers width from wide areas, while Emmanuel Ohiobe and Adams Mustapha remain key attacking options, with Timitimi Ineikade adding further depth in the final third.
Rangers International arrive with a balanced and experienced squad. Leading the line is Godwin Obaje, the NPFL top scorer with 11 goals, supported by Chidiebere Nwobodo, who provides pace and creativity from wide areas.
At the back, Kenneth Igboke and Chidozie Iwundu offer defensive stability, while Ebirim Wisdom anchors the midfield, controlling the tempo and linking play.
This fixture promises to be a tactical battle. We will look to control possession and press forward, while Rangers may adopt a compact shape and look to strike on the counter.
With both teams chasing important objectives, intensity, discipline, and composure will be key.
