The Lekan Salami Stadium will come alive this Sunday as Shooting Stars SC welcome Ikorodu City in the first South West Derby of the 2025/26 NPFL season. It’s a clash of pride, rivalry, and ambition one that promises fireworks both on and off the pitch.
After our hard-fought draw away to Bendel Insurance in Benin, we step back onto home turf looking to turn performance into victory. Rising star Ismail Ayodele continues to excite with his pace and creativity from the flanks, while Mustapha “Black Spider” Lawal brings big-match presence between the posts.
Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro is steadily instilling his high-intensity style, and with the likely returns of Alex Aghahowa and Sodiq Ibrahim from brief illness spells, our squad looks stronger. Midfield maestro Ayobami Junior adds leadership and balance, while new signing Chidiebere Nnachi could be the surprise package as the season unfolds.
The visitors, known as the Oga Boys, arrive in Ibadan full of confidence. Despite losing CHAN invitee Waliu to Cyprus, they boast quality across the pitch. Michael Atata has been reliable in goal, Junior Christian commands the backline, and Tosin Oyedokun drives their midfield with energy. Forward Shola Adelani is another threat capable of turning half chances into goals.
Adding extra spice to the derby, Coach Aweroro faces Ikorodu City his former side for the first time in the league. He’ll be determined to show how far the Oluyole Warriors have come under his leadership.
Fans should prepare for a derby filled with intensity, tactical duels, and raw passion. We will push for maximum points at home, while Ikorodu City will test our resolve with their resilience.
One thing is certain: the South West Derby will deliver drama, and the faithful at Adamasingba will be right at the heart of it.
