Shooting Stars Sports Club return to home turf this weekend as we welcome Bendel Insurance FC to the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, for a Nigeria Premier Football League Matchday 22 clash.
We come into this fixture looking to respond after a 2–0 away defeat to Bayelsa United on Matchday 21. Despite the setback, confidence remains high, built on a solid run of home performances this season. The Oluyole Warriors will be keen to react positively in front of our teeming supporters.
Bendel Insurance arrive in Ibadan in strong form, currently on a nine-game unbeaten run under head coach Kennedy Boboye. The Benin Arsenal extended that sequence with a 3–2 home win over El-Kanemi Warriors on Matchday 21, underlining their attacking quality and resilience.
Shooting Stars wins: 3
Bendel Insurance wins: 3
Draws: 3
In recent meetings, Shooting Stars claimed a 1–0 win in the 2024/25 season. Match day 2 this season saw us earning a worthy 1–1 draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium this season.
Most of the squad remains available following recent training sessions.
Ganiyu Wasiu, Adams Mustapha; Samuel Okon continues rehabilitation from an Achilles injury. Ayodele Ismail will sit this one out due to yellow card accumulation.
Coach Nurudeen Aweroro has a pretty decent percentage of the squad to select from, as most of the regulars would be available for selection. Midfield stability is expected through Tunde Azeez, Alex Aghahowa, and Tijani Kabir, who have played key roles in dictating tempo and linking play. Joshua Akpan is likely to feature out wide, with Ayobami Junior central to creativity. Up front, Sodiq Ibrahim and Lucky Emmanuel are set to lead the attack, while Awosanmi Promise and Austin Onyeamachi remain strong options.
Bendel Insurance will look to pacey winger Wisdom Udom, the aerial presence of Kayode Oke Solomon, and the link play of Chinedu Nwosu to drive their attacking threat.
Shooting Stars are expected to prioritize control, ball retention, and quick transitions, maintaining concentration against a disciplined opponent. Bendel Insurance are likely to adopt a compact, direct approach, seeking to exploit transitions and weak-side spaces.
This fixture carries added significance for the Oluyole Warriors as we didn’t win against a Kennedy Boboye side last time out in Ibadan.
With the league entering a crucial phase, every point matters. A home win would boost confidence and strengthen Shooting Stars’ position on the table.
