Katsina United 1–0 Shooting Stars SC

We suffered a narrow 1–0 defeat to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium in our Matchday 31 fixture of the Nigeria Premier Football League, following a closely contested encounter.

First Half

We started the game looking to settle into an early rhythm and earned a free kick in the 1st minute after Ayobami Junior was fouled. Ayodele Ismail followed up with another set-piece opportunity in the 4th minute.

Katsina United responded with attacking intent, winning the first corner of the match in the 8th minute. The hosts also had a free kick at the edge of the box in the 11th minute, but their effort failed to hit the target.

We continued to create opportunities from set-pieces, with Ayobami Junior delivering a corner in the 18th minute that couldn’t find a teammate. He remained involved, winning another free kick in the 23rd minute.

The hosts threatened again in the 25th minute from a free kick, but their effort went wide. A key moment followed in the 28th minute when Godgift produced a brilliant save to keep the score level.

We pushed forward in search of an opener, with Sodiq Ibrahim attempting a shot in the 33rd minute, but his effort went off target. There was also a brief stoppage in the 42nd minute following a foul on Godgift.

After two minutes of added time, the first half ended goalless, with both sides evenly matched.

Second Half

We resumed the second half with the intention of building on our first-half performance. Tijani Al-Ameen showed strong defensive awareness in the 50th minute to keep the hosts at bay.

Our pressure continued, and Sodiq Ibrahim won a free kick in the 58th minute, but we were unable to make it count. A tactical change followed in the 62nd minute, with Qamar Adegoke introduced in place of Sodiq Ibrahim.


Decisive Moment

The decisive moment came in the 66th minute when Katsina United found the breakthrough to take a 1–0 lead. Shortly after, Ayodele Ismail was shown a yellow card.

We responded with urgency in search of an equaliser. In the 71st minute, both Lucky Emmanuel and Qamar Adegoke tested the goalkeeper, but their efforts were denied.

Further substitutions were made in the 80th minute, with Adams Mustapha and Adelowo Gbolagade introduced. Moments later, Ayobami Junior went down injured in the 81st minute and required medical attention.

Katsina United continued to threaten on the counter, but Godgift produced another excellent save in the 88th minute to keep us within reach.


Full-Time

Despite our late pressure, we were unable to find an equaliser as the match ended 1–0 in favour of the hosts.

It was a tightly fought contest with limited chances. While we showed resilience and created opportunities, we were unable to convert them.

We will now regroup and shift focus to our next fixture as the NPFL season continues.
