Shooting Stars SC endured a difficult afternoon on the road as we fell to a 2–0 defeat against Kun Khalifat, in a match that saw early promise, key moments, and a red card shape the outcome.
The Oluyole Warriors started brightly, showing intent from the opening exchanges. In the 4th minute, Mustapha Lawal attempted to release Lucky Emmanuel with a quick pass, but the forward was caught offside. Two minutes later, Shooting Stars earned a free kick after Alade Balogun was fouled.
Alade remained lively, forcing action in the final third. In the 11th minute, his shot was blocked by the hosts defence, while in the 22nd minute, he failed to convert Lucky Emmanuel’s inviting cross.
Kun Khalifat grew into the game and eventually broke the deadlock in the 24th minute, taking the lead against the run of play. Shooting Stars responded with resilience, and Mustapha Lawal produced a fine save in the 37th minute to keep the deficit at one.
The first half ended with the hosts holding a 1–0 advantage at the break.
Shooting Stars made changes at the restart, with Qamar Adegoke and Ayodele Ismail introduced for Namapele James and Alade Balogun as the team pushed for an equaliser.
However, Kun Khalifat struck early again, doubling their lead in the 47th minute, putting the Oluyole Warriors under further pressure. Despite the setback, Shooting Stars continued to fight back, with Lucky Emmanuel forcing a save from the goalkeeper in the 53rd minute.
A major turning point arrived in the 58th minute when Tijani Al-Ameen was shown a red card, leaving Shooting Stars to battle the remainder of the game with ten men.
Further substitutions followed in the 63rd minute, as Tijani Kabir and Desmond Ojietefian replaced Ayobami Junior and Tunde Azeez, while Emmanuel Ohiobe later came on for Lucky Emmanuel in the 73rd minute.
Despite being a man down, Shooting Stars showed character. In the 85th minute, Qamar Adegoke came close to pulling one back, but his powerful effort was blocked and turned out for a corner. The pressure continued late on, but Kun Khalifat defended resolutely.
After four minutes of added time, the referee brought the contest to an end.
It was a challenging outing for Shooting Stars SC, with positive spells of play, missed opportunities, and a red card proving decisive. Although the result went against us, the Oluyole Warriors showed resilience and character and will now look to bounce back as focus shifts to the next NPFL fixture at home against Warri Wolves.
