Shooting Stars Sports Club battled out a hard-fought 0–0 draw against Kwara United in a tightly contested NPFL Matchday 14 fixture at the Rashidi Yekini Main Bowl, Ilorin. Both teams showed determination and tactical discipline, but neither side could break the deadlock despite several promising chances.
We started the match with intent, pressing high and forcing the home side to defend deep. Wasiu Ganiyu came close in the opening stages, drawing a save from the goalkeeper before heading the rebound off target. The momentum continued as Tijani Kabir tested the Kwara United keeper again in the 21st minute with a low drive that was comfortably gathered.
Kwara United tried to respond through set pieces, notably with a dangerous free kick in the 24th minute, but our defence stood firm. The tempo shifted in the 36th minute when Ghali Falke was forced off due to injury, prompting the introduction of Justice Apaingolo. Minutes later, Wasiu Ganiyu also picked up a knock and had to be replaced by Qamar Adegoke in the 41st minute. A yellow card for Jamiu followed shortly, and the half ended goalless.
We resumed the second half strongly, with Qamar Adegoke immediately testing the Kwara defence before Ayobami Junior saw his effort blocked in the 50th minute. Our attacking rhythm improved, but Kwara United continued to close spaces and frustrate our forward play inside the final third.
Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made further adjustments in the 77th minute, bringing on Adams Mustapha and Desmond Ojietefian for Ismail Ayodele and Ekeocha Chukwudi to inject fresh energy. Despite the renewed push and disciplined defending at the opposite end, both teams lacked the decisive moment required to settle the encounter.
We created promising situations and defended our lines well, earning a valuable point away from home. While the decisive goal eluded us, the performance showed grit, structure, and patience against a challenging Kwara United side.
Our next challenge brings us back home to the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, where we host El-Kanemi Warriors. With the backing of our passionate supporters, we will look to convert strong performances into maximum points and continue our push up the NPFL table.
