MATCH REPORT

Wikki Tourists 2–0 Shooting Stars SC

Our five-match unbeaten run came to an end on Sunday as we fell 2–0 to Wikki Tourists at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, in our Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Matchday 10 fixture.

The Oluyole Warriors arrived in Bauchi full of confidence after back-to-back wins but couldn’t convert possession into goals on a tough afternoon where the hosts took their chances and defended well.

First-Half Setback

We suffered an early blow in the 13th minute when Samuel Okon was forced off through injury, prompting an early substitution that brought in Emmanuel Ndubueze and disrupted our initial rhythm.

Despite enjoying more of the ball in the early stages, we struggled to create clear openings in the final third. Wikki, on the other hand, found momentum through their direct approach and aggressive pressing.

The breakthrough came in the 29th minute, as Salisu Abdullah found space inside the box and slotted past Mustapha Lawal to give the hosts the lead. The home side doubled their advantage before halftime, with Jephthah Mairiga finishing off a counterattack in the 42nd minute, leaving us with work to do in the second half.

Second-Half Response

Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made early tactical adjustments after the restart, introducing Adams Mustapha and Tijani Al-Ameen to bring more energy and control. Later substitutions saw Ismail Ayodele and Olaoke Olajobi replace Adegoke Abiodun and Promise Awosanmi, as we pushed to change the game’s direction.

Despite our improved second-half display and sustained attacking intent, Wikki Tourists remained compact and disciplined at the back, closing down spaces and forcing us to shoot from distance.

Full-Time Reflection

It was a challenging outing for us, and while the result didn’t go our way, the team’s fighting spirit and commitment remained evident throughout the contest. The defeat brings an end to our impressive unbeaten run, but we remain in a strong position on the NPFL table.

Our focus now turns to Matchday 11, where we return home to the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, to face Katsina United, with full determination to bounce back in front of our fans.
