Shooting Stars Stun Plateau United with Late Ayodele Strike

Matchday 7 of the Nigeria Premier Football League lived up to its billing as the Oluyole Warriors left it late but eventually broke the resistance of a resolute Plateau United side, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from substitute Ismail Ayodele, handing the Oluyole Warriors a hard-fought 1–0 victory at home.

First Half: Pressure Without Reward

The game began with a high press, as the home team asked plenty of questions and searched for an early breakthrough. Plateau United managed to weather the initial storm and enjoyed brief spells of possession, but Shooting Stars quickly regained control.

By the 10th minute, Abiodun Adegoke came close with a double chance, first denied by a defender and then by the goalkeeper’s reflex save. Kabir Tijani also had a shot drift just wide from the edge of the box as the hosts grew in confidence.

Chances continued to come. Sodiq Ibrahim headed over from a Utin cross around the 27th minute, while Promise Awosanmi’s low effort beat the goalkeeper but rolled narrowly wide. Despite dominating territory and dictating play, the breakthrough remained elusive as both teams went into halftime level.

Second Half: Persistence and Tactical Adjustments

The second half followed a similar pattern, with Ayobami Junior and Kabir Tijani testing from range but failing to find the target. Plateau United earned a dangerous free kick around the 53rd minute, but the Oluyole Warriors’ defense stood firm.

Coach Nurudeen Aweroro turned to his bench for inspiration, introducing Ismail Ayodele and Adams Mustapha to replace Sodiq Ibrahim and Promise Awosanmi, adding fresh energy to the attack. The change almost paid off immediately, as Ayodele went close in the 76th minute, only to be denied by last-ditch defending.

Late Drama: Ayodele Delivers

Just when it seemed both sides would settle for a point, the breakthrough arrived. In the 94th minute, a flowing move orchestrated by Kabir Tijani carved open the Plateau United defense, and Ismail Ayodele kept his composure to slot home calmly, sending the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, into wild celebration.

It was a goal that rewarded Shooting Stars’ persistence and determination throughout the entire match duration. The late drama secured a third consecutive victory for Aweroro’s men, underlining their resurgence and growing momentum in the league.
