We produced a stunning late comeback to claim all three points in a thrilling NPFL Matchday 6 clash against Warri Wolves at the Southern Delta University Main Bowl, Ozoro.
It was a contest that tested our character and resilience, and once again, the Oluyole Warriors rose to the occasion.
The match began with both sides showing early caution, but we quickly took control of possession and tempo. Despite our dominance in the opening stages, clear-cut chances were hard to come by, as the hosts defended compactly.
Warri Wolves had a few threatening moments of their own but never truly troubled goalkeeper Godgift Elkanah, who remained alert throughout the first half. Both teams went into the break with the scoreline goalless, setting up a tense second half.
Just seven minutes after the restart, Warri Wolves capitalized on a defensive mix-up to take the lead in the 52nd minute. That goal, however, ignited a spirited response from us.
Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro reacted swiftly, making bold tactical changes, introducing Ismail Ayodele and Qamar Adegoke for Sodiq Ibrahim and Promise Awosanmi. The substitutions immediately injected energy and purpose into our attack, with wave after wave of pressure pushing the hosts deeper into their half.
Further changes followed as Emmanuel Ndubueze and Mustapha Adams replaced Ayobami Junior and Abiodun Adegoke, adding fresh legs and intensity to the late push for an equalizer.
The persistence paid off in the 82nd minute, when substitute Qamar Adegoke found the breakthrough with a precise finish that sent our travelling supporters into raptures. His passionate celebration earned him a yellow card, but it perfectly captured the emotion of the moment.
Barely four minutes later, the turnaround was complete. Mustapha Adams, another substitute, showed great composure to slot home in the 86th minute, giving us a deserved 2–1 lead. The forward nearly doubled his tally moments later, but his effort sailed just over the bar.
The game wasn’t without its physical battles, Gbolagade picked up a booking in the first half, but the team stood firm to repel a late surge from the Seasiders and secure a memorable away victory.
It was a performance that showcased our fighting spirit, depth, and tactical flexibility. From the bench impact to the collective composure in the dying minutes, we once again proved why the Oluyole Warriors never stop believing.
With back-to-back wins now under our belt, confidence is growing across the squad as we return to Ibadan for another crucial test.
We host Plateau United at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, this weekend in what promises to be another exciting NPFL Matchday 7 encounter.
