The much-anticipated opening fixture of the 2024/25 Nigeria Premier Football League season saw Shooting Stars begin their campaign at home against Bayelsa United at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
From the streets of Ibadan to the stadium stands, the energy was electric. The Oluyole Warriors faithful turned out in numbers, filling the air with chants of “Ibadan na pe’bi” and rallying behind their team with drums, flags, and unwavering passion.
The season opener attracted wide media attention, with accredited journalists, photographers, and broadcasters capturing the return of top-flight football to Adamasingba. Our communications department ensured smooth coordination, reflecting the club’s professional outlook under Executive Chairman Hon. Taiwo Lekan Salami.
Supporters not only filled the stadium but also engaged through 3SC Fans TV, creating a strong sense of community before, during, and after the game. The fan connection highlighted once more that Shooting Stars is more than a club, it is a movement that unites Ibadan and beyond.
The Warriors started on the front foot, pressing hard to break down Bayelsa United’s defense. However, against the run of play, the visitors capitalized on a set-piece in the first half to take a narrow lead.
In the second half, Head Coach Nurudeen Aweroro made bold tactical switches, introducing Abayomi Junior and Mustapha Adams to inject fresh energy. Shooting Stars created dangerous chances and pushed relentlessly for an equalizer, but Bayelsa United held firm to see out the 1–0 result.
Though the opening result was not in our favor, the match showcased the Warriors’ fighting spirit and hunger for success this season. With the unwavering support of our fans and a renewed vision for growth, Shooting Stars are set to bounce back stronger in the fixtures ahead.
The journey has just begun. Together, we rise.
Up Shooting!
